Due to deployment, configuration and integration inconsistency between applications, delivering an application into production is a non-trivial task with lots of friction and many back-and-forth cycles between Developers and IT Operations. Painful deployments leads to not only poor quality of the delivered service but also to a tendency to avoid the pain by deploying to production as seldom as possible.
